Join an incredible coral reef restoration program based in the small fishing village on the North East coast of Bali. The reef has the potential to be a healthy and highly diverse coral reef, but is currently in poor condition due to irresponsible and unsustainable actions in the past. The marine ecosystem is under pressure from plastic pollution choking marine life as well as pressure from few individuals using unsustainable fishing practices. An urgent need to conserve and restore the reef was identified. Alongside our aim to restore and conserve the coral reef, we also aim to provide an alternative, sustainable livelihood to the local people.

As a conservation project, most of our work is actually done on land. Our main activities involve building artificial reef structures, which are designed to support marine life by creating new habitats for fish and coral to thrive. These structures are deployed into the ocean to help restore damaged ecosystems. Every Thursday, we conduct one diving session where we move and arrange these structures underwater. To join the diving activities, volunteers need to have at least an Open Water Diving certification.

Other than that, we also have a turtle conservation program, where the goal is to relocate turtle eggs from their natural nests to a safe relocation area, protecting them from predators and other threats. Once the eggs are relocated, they remain under our care until they hatch. However, the timing of this process can vary. Our turtle season typically runs from April to September, but we cannot predict exactly when the eggs will hatch. If they do hatch while volunteers are here with us, they will be more than welcome to assist in releasing the baby turtles safely into the ocean.

For those who don't have diving certificate and are interested in taking the course, we also organise these courses for new volunteers every week. It takes just three mornings where you will complete 4 open water dives. In the afternoons you'll be able to help us with our volunteering activities. If you'd like to complete the additional PADI OW course, please contact us for prices and information.

Transport Details

We provide pick-up each Sunday for volunteers until 5pm. It is strongly advised that you arrange a flight which allows you to arrive at the airport before 5pm on the Sunday.

If this is not possible, then we ask that you find a hotel near the airport on the Sunday night and then we will pick you up on the Monday morning. If you decide to choose this option, please be aware that you will incur an additional cost, since you will need to book your own hotel and find your own transport to go to that hotel. Please also note, this means you will miss the first morning of activities and program orientation.

If you wish to arrive in Bali a few days earlier, we can pick you up from your hotel on the Sunday instead. If you do this, we recommend that you book your hotel in ‘Kuta’ or ‘Sanur’, both comfortable tourism areas for you to spend you first few days in Bali which are not too far from the airport.
