Experience the beauty of rural Japan while helping preserve traditional farming practices in Otaki, a peaceful mountain village. As younger generations move to the cities, the older generation relies on support to maintain their small, family-run farms. This program offers you a unique opportunity to work alongside local farmers, learning about traditional Japanese farming methods while immersing yourself in village life and culture.

Throughout the seasons, you'll engage in a variety of farming tasks, from planting and harvesting crops in the warmer months to indoor activities like processing food and helping with snow removal in the winter. Alongside farm work, you'll get a taste of traditional Japanese crafts, customs, and everyday life, building connections with the community and experiencing a slower, more meaningful pace of living.

This program is perfect for those who want to disconnect from city life, experience the simplicity of rural Japan, and make a positive impact by supporting hardworking farmers. Whether you’re helping outdoors or joining cultural activities in the evenings, every moment is a chance to learn, grow, and give back.

Program Highlights:

  • Farming Experience: Work hands-on with local farmers to plant, harvest, and maintain crops while learning traditional Japanese techniques.
  • Seasonal Work: Enjoy outdoor farming in spring, summer, and autumn; focus on indoor tasks like crop processing and meal prep during the winter.
  • Cultural Immersion: Discover Japan’s rich traditions through crafts, cooking, and local markets in Otaki village.
  • Community Engagement: Build friendships with locals, share meals, and explore the beauty of mountain village life.
  • Authentic Rural Living: Experience the serene, traditional lifestyle in one of Japan’s most picturesque regions.
