This Sri Lankan Teaching Hospital, with over 2200 beds, conducts undergraduate training programs for university students studying Medicine, and appoints post-graduate trainees, registrars, and senior registrars to this hospital regularly, as it is one of the oldest hospitals providing the entire range of medical and surgical specialties under a single institution's administration. The Teaching Hospital also serves as a training centre for student nurses from the Nurses Training School in the Hospital.
