This program based in North Sumatra, Indonesia, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to sustainable community development, education, and environmental conservation, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our English as a Foreign Language (EFL) program fosters local empowerment and sustainable growth.

 

Volunteers will engage in a range of activities that support community education and conservation efforts. Key responsibilities include teaching within their specific program, whether on-site or by traveling to neighbouring villages. Some volunteers may also provide additional support for the Kindergarten program, assisting with early childhood learning and development. Relevant training is provided to prepare volunteers for these roles. Additionally, volunteers take turns opening and closing the Trust building and participate in hub projects to help maintain the facilities.

Start Dates & Minimum Duration

The duration of this program is 2 months. This involves reasons such as the nature of work involving young children and ensuring they have enough time to ethically form a relationship with you as a volunteer, and also so that you have the full teaching and training experience and are eligible for the Trust to provide you a reference for future employment.

Cycle 1: 4th April - 30th May
Cycle 2: 6th June - 1st August
Cycle 3: 22nd August - 17th October
Cycle 4: 24th October - 19th December

What are the requirements to take part in this program?

  • Age limit: 18-65
  • Proof of DBS check required
  • Proof of travel insurance required
  • Documentation: Passport cover, passport number, inbound and outbound flight, recent bank statement (ensuring the volunteer has at least $2000), visa.

To take part in this program, candidates should meet several key requirements to ensure they can contribute effectively to the program. Volunteers must have a conversational level of English to communicate confidently with our international team. We seek individuals who genuinely care about equal access to education, conservation, and sustainable development, as well as those who are committed to supporting and engaging with the local community.


A positive, “can-do” attitude is essential, as is an openness to working on various programs beyond their primary focus. Flexibility and a collaborative spirit are key to making a lasting impact within this program.

What are my working hours?

During your program, you will work 6 hours per day Monday-Friday.

What is the accommodation like?

You will stay at a lovely Trust in North Samatra and will share a maximum 3-person single-sex dormitory. The Trust accommodates a maximum of 6 people. There may be options to book extra nights at the accommodation, dependent on availability.

What meals are included?

Lunch will be included Monday-Friday, all food requirements will be met, whether it be vegetarian or gluten-free. Options will be provided.

What can I do in my free time?

There are many places to visit: Landak River, Gunung Leuser National Park (with a lot of wildlife like orangutans), Batu Katak (with the Bunga Bangkai and Rafflesia flowers), Badminton at Project Wings, Kayana (for live music), Tomas' (for a night out on a Saturday), Mammo's bakery, there are also many restaurants and cafes around the area.

What facilities will I have access to?

Volunteers will have access to cool showers, kitchen, WiFi, yoga mats, washing machine, bed linen, bicycles and a western toilet.

Airport Pickup

A driver will pick you up from the airport, which is included in the fee, as well as transport back to the airport once the cycle is over. The drive from the airport to the village is around 3 hours.
