Our Midwifery Internship Program in Sri Lanka offers a specialised and immersive training experience for students and aspiring midwives who wish to gain hands-on exposure in maternal and neonatal healthcare. This program is designed to provide practical learning in real-world clinical environments, enabling interns to observe and assist in the continuum of maternity care. From antenatal assessments to postnatal support, under the supervision of experienced midwives and healthcare professionals. It’s an ideal opportunity to deepen your understanding of midwifery practice within Sri Lanka’s dynamic healthcare system.
Program Highlights
1. Antenatal Care Exposure: Interns will participate in antenatal clinics, observing routine check-ups, health education sessions, and screenings for expectant mothers. They will learn about risk assessment, fetal monitoring, and early pregnancy interventions.
2. Labour and Delivery Observations: Interns will have the opportunity to observe labor and childbirth in hospital maternity wards. Under supervision, they may assist with preparing delivery rooms, supporting the mother during labour, and post-delivery care.
3. Postnatal and Newborn Care: Interns will gain insight into the immediate and ongoing care provided to mothers and newborns. This includes observing breastfeeding support, monitoring maternal recovery, and assisting with newborn assessments.
4. Health Education and Community Outreach: Interns will engage in maternal health education programs conducted in rural and urban settings. These include workshops on nutrition, birth preparedness, newborn care, and family planning.
Responsibilities:
1. Maternal Health Monitoring: Assist with recording vital signs, monitoring fetal heart rates, and observing signs of complications during pregnancy and labour.
2. Support During Labour: Provide non-clinical support to expectant mothers during labor and delivery, including emotional reassurance, breathing techniques, and comfort measures.
3. Newborn Assessments: Observe and assist with immediate newborn care tasks such as Apgar scoring, cleaning, weighing, and early breastfeeding support.
4. Community Education: Participate in delivering maternal and child health education to local communities, helping raise awareness on safe motherhood practices, hygiene, and infant nutrition.
